Expert tips on La Romana Cruise Excursion.
On our day of our Carnival cruise in La Romana, Dominican Republic, we liked to do something else. Instead of yet another beach or the historical buildings we opted for a nature experience. We happened to choose the best place for our shore excursion in La Romana, at the Tanama Jungle Ranch. They offer enormous value, the price tag beats the cruise line excursions by far and it turned out to be the best tour of our entire cruise.

Soon we started for a attractive river cruise in the gorge of the Rio Chavon, we saw loads of flora and fauna and the countryside was spectacular. The ranch is on the banks of the Rio Chavon and after a short while we started with the guided tour. Initial attraction was the butterfly garden . I thought it might be a bit boring, but it appeared to be amazing. Robert, the guide, explained genuinely amazing facts, that were both enjoyable and educational. Even my teenage kids, who usually are tired of anything, were amazed and fully in it. The next part was an easy rainforest walk. And once again interesting information was given in an interactive way. The orchid display and hummingbird area were amazing. Next up were the indigenous creatures. You are able to pet the iguanas, the boa constrictors and the endangered local parrots. You also can pet a large spider, but I passed on this one. The iguanas were so very cool!

Back again in the beautiful central square we were offered treats and a lot of drinks. Unlike the onboard excursions in which the booze is watered down or drinks are limited to water, here the liquor comes straight from the bottle and you can choose how weak or strong you want your drink. You are not limited to mineral water as well if you prefer to not take alcoholic beverages. All and all this was an amazing excursion that offers top value for what you have to pay for it.
